Future is the ‘IT’ word

DMC 3B 04 – Class of 2009/2010

Hello once again!

For the past week, I had witnessed 5 other presentations other than mine being presented during our NCT class.
All I can say is that it really opened my eyes to the possibilities of the future.
Like…how the future of Advertising, Public Relations, Journalism, Books, Learning and Music will be like.

My group of course did The Future of Music Industry.
I’ll talk about that later.

For the future of advertising, my classmates, Trixia, Cassandra and Li Ting showed us this awesome video.
There’s a billboard in America I think which bleeds!
Freaky? It’s supposed to remind people about road accidents or something.
And guess what? That advertising campaign was a success!
So how it works is that when it rains and the billboard gets wet, red colour dye just flows out of it.(*I believe that’s how it works*)

Oh, and what’s the future of advertising you might be wondering? Well, how about being able to touch, taste, smell, (*and what other senses are there again..*)..?
If you think about it, it might just be possible. Except I don’t see how you can actually taste something before buying it. Oh wait a minute, you can…in the form of sampling.

I think what might possibly happen is customised advertising. Like those you see in Minority Report. Where the ad will just call out to you by your name. But I think it’ll be really noisy. I don’t know.

This post is going to be really long if I start judging everybody’s presentation. So I shall just pick out a few.

The future of Journalism. An interesting point that was raised was regarding Citizen Journalism which I find to be quite interesting. It basically means normal people like you and me giving your own story which I think is something that we do best and requires no formal degree whatsoever.

When I really think about it, what if one day people don’t really need to get news from journalists?
I think one day, you might have like a chip inside you which works like RSS feeds.
You’ll just get news inside you.
Weird but yeah.

The following day, Friday, it was the remaining 3 groups to present on the future of everything else.
First we had The Future of Books.
Well, in summary, real physical books might be replaced by e-books.
Oh, and while the group (William, Shawn, Kevin and Matthew) was presenting, we had interesting tweets.
A few people confessed how much they like the smell of books including me!
I thought I was the only weird one.
So yeah, I think that’s something an e-book can never have.
But then again, I’m not much of a reader.

And now let me talk about my group’s presentation which was on The Future of Music Industry.
I thought it went pretty well.
Except that we might have messed up on our Q & A.
But nonetheless, I thought the researching part really gave me a lot of ideas of what’s going to happen in the future.
It’s sad that CDs might just disappear.
I mean, I love CDs.
I love to smell it (ok..I am OFFICIALLY weird), feel the sleeve and then put it back in its plastic packaging.

I remember I once talked about music during my Sec 3 oral exam.
I said when I listen to a song, I would imagine the artist singing it to me especially when I purchase the album.
It’s like a sense of satisfaction. Something that digital downloads can never do. Oh well, I spoke too soon.

I also came across tips on what an artist should do to survive the future of music industry.
I think it’s brilliant.
I should sign up for MySpace and put my music out there.
And who knows, I might be the next Colbie Caillat. (*or not*)

Ms Kwa made every group get their photo taken after each presentation.
And before we leave, we took a class photo which you see above.
This might be my last NCT post.

Oh, and in the final class this Thursday, I will be having my individual presentation.
Final day of school, final presentation.
It’s gonna be a day of final-ise everything.

Alright then.

Before I end the post, I will like to say that if you want to be an artist, don’t wait for popularity contests. Do it ONLINE.
Try MySpace, YouTube..oh, oh..SellaBand is cool.
Google them.
Lets not be lazy.

Till next time!

All Wired Up =)

Hello everyone,

To start off this post, I would like to make an apology to my dear lecturer, Ms Kwa for attending her lecture late this week.
Sitting at the bottom few rows in the lecture theatre isn’t so bad afterall. I mean, at least I wasn’t that distracted.
And I learnt that there’s no such thing as 1 minute late. When you are late, YOU ARE LATE.

Alright, enough of getting all emotional, lets do a recap of what I learnt during NCT this past week.

To start off, at lecture, we learnt about Wireless Technology.
I finally know the differences between all the different ‘G’s..
You know, 2G, 3G…and I found out that Apple iPhone will come in 4G the next time round.
Technology is moving fast…a little too fast!

And on Thursday’s class, Li Ting introduced us to a phone that we thought is the bestest thing in the world. It’s called the Pomegranate phone! (see above picture)

It’s cute isn’t it?
Go google it.
There’s an official website!

Oh, and if you stumble upon the Wiki page, you’ll be in for a huge surprise!

My best friend, Aqmar presented us with the topic on Globalisation.
Wow..who knew it actually started since the 1400?
Impressive stuff!
You know how something that’s good can have something bad as well?
Well, Globalisation is one of it.
It’s good in a sense that people are connected closer to each other.
But it’s bad because it can cause people to lose jobs!

After that presentation, Kevin who presented on Podcasting the previous week, presented again with Part 2 of the “How to Podcast” presentation. Very technical. But very useful. I think I’m gonna try doing my own podcasts. Will you want to listen to it??

Alright, then on Friday which was just yesterday, I found out about this awesome, AWESOME website.

go to www.wolframalpha.com

It can tell you almost anything and everything!
For example…my birthdate! (see above picture again) Ok..I have seriously NO IDEA how to upload photos on WordPress)

These are things that happened on my birthdate 19 years ago!
Cool huh??

Oh, and has anyone heard of Second Life?
it’s an online game where you literally have another life online.
I like the whole idea of having a totally different persona online!
And it’s not just any type of game.
You can actually earn real cash!
And there’s also other things you can do like ehem…have sex with people..
It’s kind of weird but oh well, some people just have certain needs.

Oh yes, and how did I learn all this? It was thanks to my classmates Jovis, Aileen, William and Shawn.
Thanks guys for enlightening me =)

I was actually supposed to present on my topic regarding YouTube but it had to be pushed back till the last NCT lesson 2 weeks from now.
I have big plans for it and I’m going to make sure that it’s going to be something memorable for me and my classmates.

So..till next time,

PS: This is actually my 4th post. I don’t know why my previous one got a page of its own when it wasn’t supposed to.

what did Stephie say?

Hello!
I’m sorry if the title is like REALLY cheesy. Couldn’t think of anything better. Lets see…I left off talking about the first week of school right? See if I still remember what happened in the 2nd week. I know that famous fashion blogger Stephie Tan came to talk to us. I must say she looks like one of our DMC seniors. Not gonna name who. LOL.

It’s interesting hearing about what she does. I especially like the part that she gets to travel around to different places to write about fashion. Throughout the lecture, I couldn’t help but take down a few of the things she said. And at the same time, Tweet like there was no tomorrow. Everybody was doing it.

A few meaningful quotes:
 – “Social media is a dinner table filled with conversations”
Interesting eh? I mean, when you think about it, it’s really like what happens in real life. The only difference is, it’s in virtual form.

 – “Be cautious about what you tweet”
I totally agree! Sometimes, you tend to say too much. It can either make or break you. Usually, it breaks you. So be careful!

 – “Bloggers are human beings”
But it amazes me sometimes how much bloggers can actually blog. They can blog about ANYTHING and EVERYTHING. I think people find blogs more interesting to read than newspapers. I am one of them. LOL.

O~kayy…you might think the quotes are just like any other. But I think it has deeper meanings.
Do I make sense to you? I hope so.

Anyways, I took “stalker” pictures during the lecture:

That’s Stephie!
And yes! Check out her website at www.stephiesays.com and her blogshop at www.shop.stephiesays.com!

Oh, and that same week for NCT class, my classmates Trixia and Cassandra taught us about Wisdom of Crowds. I like their presentation. The game we played. It was AWESOME! I had fun! I don’t usually find learning fun. But their presentation got me really interested. Now that’s what I call “the best of both worlds”!

The following day, which is the Friday’s class, Samantha and Nadine gave their presentation on Facebook. Everybody with their laptops could try their hands on exploring Facebook but since my died the day before, I had to share with people. But then we had to do a group thing where we created a page for my class, DMC 04! FUN!!! Now I finally know what’s the difference between a profile, page and group. Thanks to Sam and Nadine. =))

Will blog about the 3rd week of school soon =)

The first post!

Hello!

Let’s see..it’s been a really crazy couple of weeks for me. Been wanting to blog about this a really long time ago but was just too busy. When I finally found the time to blog, my old computer had to crash! Guess the photos and memories in there are all gone. SIGH.

Anyways, I mentioned this in my Blogger blog before and I’m going to say it here again. I think NCT, as in New Communication Technologies is awesome! Thanks to this module, I finally sign up for a WordPress account! Oh, and Tweeting is so much fun!

In the first week of school, I learnt how to set this up and I think we watched Minority Report while having breakfast in class. How cool was that? Technologies scare me sometimes. I mean, the things that it can do. Like who would’ve thought that in just a few years, everyone owns a mobile phone that’s in colour? Ringtones that don’t really RING but SING?

Have you ever wondered about that? I know I have.

My life’s pretty complicated right now so I need to sort things out first before I can continue to blog even more.

Till next time,
